Benchmarks pure fitness fitness Methodologies seals, marines, firefighters and police

Organizations whose members are expected to participate in physical activity as an essential aspect of the composition – the various branches of the armed forces repressive methods of fitness and CrossFit – a necessary part standard reference points of physics, the minimum requirements that all potential members must meet. When an important part of their professional identity is based on their ability to make (or kill) the bad (the evil look, whose main aim is to avoid capture), must be able to run, jump, to support its own weight, and make correctly for all other physical activities that may arise in a day's work. The fitness standards are different to try to ensure that candidates are in their respective fields.

They vary greatly, of course. different jobs require different levels of competition. In addition, some organizations, as the army, are always looking for new recruits, so that their standards are not as rigorous standards of the Navy SEALs. There is strong demand for entry into the seals, and do everything possible to discourage informal applicants while this would certainly be nice if the military was fully populated by seals, is not realistic. Therefore, the army a "relaxed" standards.

However, I wonder if any of these criteria are appropriate for the public in general. If the average adult enough way to be, for example, a police officer? A sailor? A stamp? Take a look at some.

Standards Utah Peace Officers and Training (POST) certification requires police to prospective Utah County intends to complete the following:

  • 1.5 of a mile race 15:37
  • 16 representatives of consecutive bombs Restless
  • 15-inch vertical jump
  • 25 sit-ups in a minute
  • Run 300 meters in 70 seconds

The Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test (PFT) is more difficult and must be performed once a year, one can not loosen it. There is also a fight against Aptitude Test (CFT) to complete, which is oriented towards fitness battle functional. Men receive five points for each pull-up, one point for each crisis, and a point is deducted from 100 per 10 seconds over 18 minutes in the series of three miles. The women receive 1.5 points for each second in the flexed arm (maximum 70 seconds), while the score is the same for crackles and run three miles (including if you have 21 minutes to the race). To get a perfect score of 300 PFT, men must do 20 consecutive pushups, 100 sit-ups in less than two minutes, and end the series of three miles in at least 18 minutes. For women, 70 seconds in the flexed arm hang, 100 abdominal and 21 minutes. minimum, however? A man can get by with a few pushups, 50 sit-ups, and a time of 28 minutes operation, a female can get by with 15 seconds on the shot, 44 abdominal, and a time of 30 minutes of operation.

The boards require more general skills of fitness, and it is only the first physical screening test (PST). The numbers are absolute minimum, always be overcome. A guy who is barely minimum technically be past, but there is no way that was more realistic.

  • 500 meters breaststroke swimming or use of a modified freestyle (called anti-marine) in the competition at 10:30 12.30
  • 42 push-ups arms in two minutes, the count of the competition at least 79
  • 50 sit-ups in two minutes, the count of the competition at least 79
  • Six dead hang consecutive pull-ups, counting the amount of at least 11
  • 1.5 miles race "boots and trousers in less than 11:30 in the morning competition pursuant 10:20

Once you pass the PST, there are three other phases, 27-week long training course that really weeds em.

What firefighters? Of all the official tests of the standard fit for service personnel, I like the more physical testability certification basis of fire. Different states have different requirements, but are generally more difficult for law enforcement and military trials (except for seals and other special forces). Candidates Take Seattle Fire Department physical abilities. Candidates must wear long pants, a helmet, gloves and a 50 pound weighted vest to fruition the following in chronological order with little rest between exercises:

MMA Supplements

  • Upload stairs – Completion of two shoulder additional 12.5 pounds of weight, candidates must mount a stairmaster at level three (50 steps per minute) for 20 seconds Then three minutes to level four (60 steps per minute)
  • hose drag – put the tip of the thumb over his shoulder 1.5 should drag a hose 200 feet from 75 feet per barrel at an angle of 90 degree turn and pull the hose over 25 feet, then pull the hose to the fifty-foot hand hand
  • Equipment carry – carry two large mountain ranges of 75 feet to a marker and back
  • increase and extension ladder – 24 foot floor elevator aluminum extension ladder, the inch by inch, until it is permanent, to extend a hand of 24 feet on the side of the scale, and lower in a controlled movement
  • forcible entry – The strike of "forced accumulated input device measure the force with a horizontal oscillation of a body of five kilos nonstop for several minutes
  • Search – Blind, crawling through a labyrinth of tunnels and maneuvering around, under and on the various barriers to exit
  • Rescue – a model of attraction for 165 pounds 35 feet, then turn around and return to the starting position
  • Roof rape and shooting – the use of a foot six pole climbing a weighted average, 60 books section ceiling three times, then hang up the pole to a ceiling resistance device and pull weighted down for five times and repeat this sequence of four categories

What I like in this test (beyond the weighted vests and intensity general) is that it is fully functional, not just for firefighters. These are activities that someone might find useful – Someone dragging safety, climbing stairs without extra weight on his shoulders, crawling through tunnels blind, making pulling heavy objects, lifting a ladder. You can probably drop your gym workouts and do nothing, but try this a few times a week and want to be in fantastic form.

Then there are specific rules for the sport. A decathlete must show the way to fitness ten athletes: 100 m edge, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400 meters from the shore, the 110 meter hurdles, discus, pole vault javelin, 1500 meter run. Sprint, jump, jumping, endurance, power, strength – you can not get much more balanced than that.

There are different points of waiting for each position, the weights and heights, of course, but combine the two sets of drilling to try to quantify and measure the type of activities (Jumps, sprints, push) the players will be on the floor.

And then there are benchmarks in the provision of methods pure form, as CrossFit. CrossFit is interesting as it addresses not a strict, precise, objective criteria. Do not tell its members to reach a certain weight in the squat, or a minimum time in rowing. Instead, they preach a general competence in all areas of fitness: cardiovascular endurance, strength, endurance, flexibility, coordination, agility, balance, precision, power and speed. "Athletes are free to set their own personal references, whether the realization of a general accreditation weight narrow body, or rowing 2000 meters in less than seven minutes. They are asked to complete the training schedule for the day (WOD), but allows an athlete to compete against the other (or themselves).

For my money, is the way to go, especially in comparison with military means law enforcement to test their recruits. CrossFit (and other similar methods of fitness) is constantly evolving and changing their athletes it. There is always this drive to improve their points personal reference, improve and grow. aptitude tests typical of the other, are usually contracts at once, a rookie cop could possibly train enough to pass the entrance exam, only to go to the pot once it is built in strength and at ease with his place (ironically, CrossFit is popular among police, military and firefighters).

Now I think CrossFit is on the right track, but not for everyone. The holistic, well rounded and is generally higher (the majority people that do not involve immersion in a ring of ten feet or catch a touchdown pass) to the sport-specific training. That person should be able to complete the WOD as in record time? Not at all, but he or she should be able to squat to pick up their children, climb a tree (feet, if necessary) to scale, make a fast run with the dog, head shot heavy bag up a few stairs without gasping for breath, and swim without sinking.

These are the basic skills around the world, most of the time (age, injury, fitness level, and disease play a role in determining of things, of course – but they are good markers to draw from), should be able to achieve. When you are able to explore their environment (vertical and horizontal), for manipulate their weight, increase overall purpose, without undue effort, are suddenly able to enjoy life a little easier. One goes to a long walk, rather that suck the wind and cursing your decision to undertake the journey, you are better able to appreciate the sights, sounds and smells of nature.
